8-Port Bi-Directional Cable TV HDTV Amplifier Splitter Signal Booster with Passive Return Path Reviews

![Cable TV Splitter Reviews Cable TV Splitter Reviews]()
I have a new house with very long cable runs. When they built the house they ran a seperate cable to each room, instead of splitting them upstairs in the attic. I had an issue with the digital cable and the modem loosing signal and picture freezing before I purchased this item. It took about 5 minutes to install the amp and all picture issues are gone. Before I could not have the signal split into more than 3 lines before experiencing picture issues. I now have 7 lines running out of the amp without issue, including the cable modem. Great product, and you can not beat the price.

I'm currently deployed and our TV signal is poor. I bought this powered amplified splitter and it works great. We're even picking up channels we didn't have here. It got here to Afghanistan in less than a week after I ordered. These were the only folks I found that had a 8 way powered splitter that would ship to an APO address.

2-Port Bi-Directional Cable TV HDTV Amplifier Splitter Signal Booster with Passive Return Path Reviews
Review by Mac37205:

I have a Silicon Dust HDHomeRun dual QAM/ATSC tuner feeding a Mac Mini that is hooked up to a HDTV. The same cable feed is used for a cable modem and a direct connection to the HDTV. A passive 4-way splitter was doing the job for over a year, but the HDTV and internet performance was slowly declining. The cable guy replaced the drop cable to house, but unfortunately, the signal strength did not improve significantly. The signal going into the house was +10.5 dBmv (typical expected value), but after a fifty foot run and a final 4-way split, the signal was -8 dBmv at the cable modem (the signal typically varied between -9 and -7 dBmv). The HDHomerun tuners were detecting a signal strength of about 80%, which is at the extreme low end of providing a reliable QAM signal. In fact, many recorded shows were less than perfect. After doing some additional research and reading the reviews of all the PCT amplifier products here at Amazon, I decidied to purchase the 2-port PCT amplifier.
My final setup is a passive two-way splitter where the cable enters the house followed by the PCT amp followed by a fifty foot run, and finally, the original passive 4-way splitter (2 HDHomeRun tuners, HDTV, and terminator on fourth output). As it turns out, the cable modem should either be dirctly connected to the cable (impossible if you have a TV) or at the MOST, after a 2-way split. The outgoing (upstream signal) is often overlooked. Thus, the cable modem has a separate feed from the initial passive 2-way splitter. The upstream cable modem signal went from 53 dBmv to 48 dBmv (below 50 dBmv is great) and the downstream signal varies between -2 and 0 dBmv (-5 to +5 is ideal; note that the cable modem was NOT amplified). The HDTV has been spectacular! Both signal strength and signal quality register well above 95%, more often at 100%. And the bonus is that I have an unused amplified output, that currently has a terminator, that will eventually be used for future expansion of coaxial outlets in other rooms.
The no-brainer is to purchase an inexpensive PCT amp, but do your research on how much ampification is required and if necessary, how to deal with signals for both a cable modem and HDTVs. An excellent source is the supplier of the amps at CableTVamps.com.
Thanks to everyone who posted the previous reviews of PCT amps and inspired me so solve my cable problem.
Review by Dan Zimmerman:

I have a couple of the PCT Amplifier in my set up. They do a great job of keeping the DTV signals strong. I have one station that is 90 degrees from the other stations that with out a distribution amp, the signal degrades to the point where I'm lucky to get 20-30%. With these amps, i'm getting 80-85% signal. I'm also occationally getting out of market stations that I was not getting without them.
To be clear, these help keep the signal from degrading along the long runs from the antenna to the tv/reciever - they are not boosting the antenna power.

Two Gigahertz Low-Loss RF Splitters for TV & Satellite MKII - 2 Way 2 GigaHertz RF Splitter Reviews
Review by Fredric Pierce:

I am normally a bit cynical about the performance claims of companies like Monster Cable. I'm an engineer, I want to understand exactly what is happening and the slightly fuzzy, "oogy-boogy" nature of some of these claims makes me scoff.
BUT...I am amazed at what this little thing did for me!
I spent a good 5 hours on phone calls with my FiOS service provider trying to figure out why my super high speed internet connection was intermittently stopping and going super slow and then hitting its speed limit. My family was getting pretty irate. (It's funny how totally dependent we have become on the internet.) I hate electronic problems that are not repeatable. They are nearly unsolvable. The very helpful customer service reps led me through several attempts to fix the problem. After thinking it was fixed a couple times, the problem reappeared. The last rep (logically) concluded that the only component that could be flakey was the wireless router and he sent me a new one. Didn't fix it.
I was getting extremely frustrated. I figured there had to be some very slight fault in the cables that wasn't bad enough to cut off the signal, but bad enough to interfere with it. So I swallowed my skepticism and decided to try replacing the standard quality splitter that the FiOS company installed with one of these Monster 2-way splitters, because that was the simplest first step.
Well, blow me down! The problem is gone. I have my screaming fast internet back, and everybody is happy!
I guess there really is a meaningful quality difference! Monster, I believe!!
Review by Busy Executive:

I've been having problems with my cable signal, and I tried a few of these splitters to see if that's where the problem was occurring. Replaced the 15 year old, cable TV company supplied splitter with the Monster, and while it certainly seems to be a more robust product, in the end I saw no performance difference.
Indeed, my cable modem (Motorola) has a diagnostic mode where it can display the strength of the incoming signal. I measured it on the old splitter, switched to the Monster - and see exactly zero difference.
Still, considering that my local electronics store no-name brand is about , I don't feel bad paying a few dollars more for the Monster product. It certainly seems more rugged, and I doubt I'd ever have to replace it again.
Bottom line is I'm sure it's doing what it's supposed to, but there's no magic to be had by simply swapping out a splitter.

Two Port (2 output) Indoor/Outdoor High Performance 5-1000 MHz Cable TV HDTV Coaxial Digital Signal Splitter (All Ports Down) Reviews
Review by Video Guy 40333:

This splitter has a unique design, with all of the connections on the bottom of the splitter. It makes the splitter easier to use especially in small or restricted spaces. The bottom of the splitter is only about 3 inches wide, so you don't need much space to hook up all the cables. I found this useful because I did not have to bend or kink any of my installation cables. It is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, and because the connectors are all on the bottom, it tends to keep the connections free from dirt, debris, and moisture.

Review by Brian A. Troyk:

Works just as advertised! It is low-loss, build quality is very sturdy and connections designed well to fit your cable fittings.
Review by Mr. Green Thumb:

I'm using this splitter at the end of about 75' coaxial cable run from the rooftop antenna. The splitted signal goes into the attic and it get splitted again with Acoustic Reasearch 4-way 2.5Ghz splitter before another 93' of coaxial cable to my next door neighbor's house cheap 3-way splitter. From there it goes throughout his house with addition of another 20' of coaxial cable before it reaches the converter box. He is able to receive 100% on most HDTV channels and a few fluctuate between 90% and 95%. I use all quad-shield cable throughout my house but I think he has regular dual shield RG59. You can read my other review on Channel Master 7777 to see my setup. This is a circuit board type splitter and they are designed for low loss if you have a long cable run like I do.

Review by K. Wyatt:

After making some recent upgrades in my primary audio/video system it became clear that the two way splitter that the cable company provided was simply inadequate to the task. Upon doing some research I determined that this particular splitter made by one of the industries most reputable manufacturers was going to have to be the way to go. Upon hooking up this superior two-way splitter in conjunction with Monster's MV3F2M NF Video 3 coaxial cables there was quite a wonderfully distinct difference in the picture on my new television.After seeing such a distinct improvement in the signal for my primary audio/video system I immediately went out and purchased another one for the computer room to use for both the cable modem and the television in that room. This is the perfect two-way splitter for either a television/cable modem hookup or a television with PIP (picture-in-picture) capability in conjunction with a cable box or satellite receiver!I highly recommend this outstanding cable splitter to any and all who're interested in getting the best picture available from their television sets or signal for their cable modems. The end results far outweigh the costs for this splitter! {ssintrepid}
Review by The_Digital_Dude:

This 2Ghz splitter is sooo good, I would easily pay twice the price for it and it would still be worth every penny! I have a TV tuner in my computer that has the cable signal passing through FOUR of these Monster Cable 2Ghz splitters, and there is virtually no signal degradation, most notably on the troublesome lower band channels like 2 and 3.The reception on our big-screen TV is the best it has ever been, too, using this splitter and the high-quality MC coax cable._Before_ I installed these MC splitters, I was using the best gold-plated splitters available from one of your favorite national electronic parts suppliers around the corner, and the signal for channels 2 and 3 was basically dead on arrival with extremely snowy picture and noisy sound interference.Great job, Monster Cable! You've done it again by proving that nothing else compares. Thank you!

Two Gigahertz Low-Loss RF Splitters for TV & Satellite MKII - 3 Way 2 GigaHertz RF Splitter Reviews
Review by B. Little:

I always thought passive 3-way splitters had two -7.5db taps and one -3.5 tap. But Monster implies that all three taps on this unit have the same -5.7 loss. In addition, one tap is labeled "Power pass out". I know this is used by inline amplifiers on satellite systems, but it would be nice if the packaging explained this feature.
The only specs I could find are below from Monster's site.
"The DB Loss per output is:
TGHZ-2RF 5MHz-1GHz: -3.4dB 1GHz- 2GHz: -4.9dB
TGHZ-3RF 5MHz-1GHz: -5.7dB 1GHz- 2GHz: -8.9dB
TGHZ-4RF 5MHz-1GHz: -7.4dB 1GHz- 2GHz: -9.6dB"
So I like the look and performance of this in my system, but I wish Monster would provide more documentation and explain why this unit is different from the other 2 ghz splitters on the market.
